Meet the 2018 Harley-Davidson Softails

The Dyna is dead, long live the Softail

We all know Harley-Davidson revamped its Softails into monoshock scoots and killed off the Dyna. While many of us were less than thrilled about the Dyna’s demise, the new Softy line sure has made an impact on the industry.

They feature a reinvented frame built to harness the massive power of the Milwaukee-Eight 107 and 114 engines. The all-new Softail models are lighter than before, and they have a 34% stiffer chassis overall.
Moreover, the Milwaukee-Eight 107 and 114 engines are the most powerful that H-D has ever put in a Softail frame. New Showa SDBV suspension technology provides the performance of a racing-style cartridge fork with linear damping characteristics. And of course, there’s the all-new easily adjustable monoshock rear suspension. Here’s a rundown of each Softail model.
2018 H-D Street Bob
Street Bob
Now 7.7kg lighter, quicker and stronger, the all-new, blacked-out Street Bob rolls on spoked wheels and comes with chopped mudguards, hidden digital instrument screen, mini-ape bars and mid-mount controls.
2018 H-D Fat Bob
Fat Bob
The all-new Fat Bob is 21.9lb lighter and has a new 2-1-2 upswept exhaust and never-seen-before asymmetrical tank graphic, inverted forks, and fat tires with an aggressive tread pattern. Available in 107 and 114 engine displacements.
2018 H-D Low Rider
Low Rider
The tradition of individualism in the custom chopper era is demonstrated by the Low Rider’s rake on its front end, dual gauges on the tank and ‘70s-inspired graphics. Only it’s built for rolling faster, harder and longer than any Low Rider motorcycle that ever rolled out of the factory. It’s also lighter with the massive, refined power of the Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine, and lean angles and suspension that let you carve corners in ways they never imagined back in the day.
2018 H-D Breakout
Breakout
The all-new Breakout model takes the idea of long, lean, asphalt-devouring muscle to the modern edge. The new smaller tank lets the Milwaukee-Eight® engine stand out. The 240mm rear tire looks like it was born to leave a fat patch on the pavement. The all-new suspension lets you put maximum power to the street. And you’ll feel the difference the 35lb weight reduction makes the instant you twist the throttle. You also get more lean angle and agility than you ever imagined in a bike carrying this much dragster attitude and style. Available in 107 and 114 engine displacements.
2018 Softail Slim
Softail Slim
The idea behind bobbers has always been to strip down and soup up the bike for a more exciting ride. The all-new Softail Slim® takes that idea to the edge. The look is authentic bobber-style done the way only Harley-Davidson can. It’s 35lb lighter than before. It has more power, more lean angle, and redesigned front and rear suspension. So you can put the Milwaukee-Eight® 107 engine to use and have some fun on your favorite twisty roads.
2018 H-D Fat Boy
Fat Boy
The look of the Fat Boy is more muscular than ever, thanks to all-new solid-disc wheels, and the 240mm rear tyre matched with a 160mm front. But now the Fat Boy is 29lb lighter and benefits from the extra power of the Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin engine.
2018 H-D Softail Deluxe
Softail Deluxe
The Softail Deluxe is a combination of vintage style and modern know-how with everything a rider expects that technology can deliver. The Deluxe is 31lb lighter with easier handling, massive power and acceleration from the Milwaukee-Eight 107 V-Twin engine, and all-day comfort from the comfortable new seat and pullback handlebars.
2018 H-D Heritage Classic
Heritage Classic
The new Heritage Classic adds a fresh edge to chromed ‘50s nostalgia. The history is still there, but it’s done with a dark style, modern edge and totally reinvigorated ride. It features a windshield and hard saddlebags for light touring. Available in 107-inch and 114-inch engine displacements.
